Join our garden club, where gardening enthusiasts gather for expert speakers, horticulture advice, plant sales, tours, and more. We meet monthly from March to December around Wright County, MN.
The Wright County Horticultural Society is a non-profit garden club based in Buffalo, Minnesota, established in 1978. We unite gardening enthusiasts of all ages who are passionate about nurturing plants and enhancing horticulture within our community. For instance, we received valuable horticulture advice on how to grow vegetables in straw bales from the expert gardener who developed this method (Joel Karsten). In this picture, one of our members celebrated a fantastic harvest as her squash flourished all over the yard!
We meet monthly from March to December, typically at Buffalo Covenant Church (though we are not a religious organization). Our garden club is dedicated to sharing knowledge of horticulture and new gardening techniques among gardening enthusiasts. We organize the club projects, such as our popular plant sales, and decide on upcoming expert speakers for our meetings. In December, we come together for a festive holiday potluck for our members. Meetings, including those with expert speakers, the plant sale, and the holiday party, are generally held at the church, while our garden tours take place at vlocations throughout Wright County and Minnesota.
Yearly Schedule (see our Events Page for updates & details):
At our garden club, we host expert speakers to share the latest techniques in gardening and provide valuable horticulture advice. Our sessions have covered a variety of topics for gardening enthusiasts, including straw bale gardens with Joel Karsten, bee keeping with Gregg Hermerding and John Jarvela, maple syrup production by St. Johns University, organic beef farming from Thousand Hills, and eagle and animal biology presented by Stan Tekiela. In this picture, Marty B. taught us effective techniques to preserve our fall harvest through drying and canning vegetables. If you would like to suggest an expert speaker or offer a presentation to our club, please reach out.
In the summer, our garden club travels around Wright County and Minnesota to explore beautiful gardens. Our members, who are true gardening enthusiasts, may host visitors at their homes, or we may organize trips to public gardens (you must be a member and contact us to get the date and address). In this picture, we visited Bettie Ann at Rice Creek Gardens in Fridley, MN. She is a commercial grower specializing in cold-hardy plants, like rhododendrons, and offers valuable horticulture advice. If you would like to attend a garden tour or know of a garden you'd like to visit, please reach out.
To raise money for our garden club, we host a plant sale in May, typically on a Saturday morning. Members contribute to the sale by donating plants, extra tools, pots, and other garden supplies. We assist by setting up tables and managing the cash register. This event is open to the public, making it a great opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to buy plants and meet fellow garden friends. If you'd like to help with our plant sales or get involved, please reach out.

Do you have any extra garden supplies you'd like to part with? Whether it's tools, bulbs, seeds, plants, or pots that you're not using, please bring them to a garden club meeting. This is a great opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to share resources and pass along items to fellow members.

Bring a friend to a garden club meeting and save on membership while enjoying expert speakers and valuable horticulture advice. It's a great opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to connect and participate in plant sales.
